Where do independent repair shops rank?
A recent study was done by the Consumer Reports National Research Center to find how consumers feel about their mechanics and the work performed.
Based on approximately 1,700 random, nationwide interviews findings showed that, on average, car owners plan to keep their current car for at least 5 more years, stating the importance of maintenance and a good, trustworthy mechanic.
77% of the respondents take their vehicle to a repair shop while the other 21% choose to handle the repairs and maintenance themselves.
Of the respondents who take their vehicles to repair shops, 37% choose to bring their vehicles to independent repair shops, followed with 30% bringing them to dealerships, and 11% bringing their vehicles to chain repair shops.
The vast majority of the respondents (91%) stated that they fully trust their repair shop. When asked about their choice shop’s quality and pricing, it was again and overwhelming percent of 85 with only 15% stating that they were unhappy.
