Recent GM Recalls
General Motors recently recalled around 70,000 late model vans, SUV's, and pickups for a potential defective transmission interlock that can allow the vehicle to roll away after being parked. The recalled vehicles may be equipped with fractured park lock cables as well as malformed steering column lock components. This could allow the key to be removed even if the transmission was not shifted to the Park postition. The defect may also override the federally mandated transmission interlock allowing to accidentally shift from Park to another gear without the brake being applied.
All vehicles covered by the recall are 2013 models produced between November and December of last year. These include the 2013 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, and Tahoe; GMC Savana, Sierra HD, Sierra LD, Yukon and Yukon XL.
GM plans to notify owners to bring their vehicles in for inspection. Repairs will be made at no charge.
